Here Comes The Bride

'Is there anyone in this congregation who has a reason or reasons why this couple should not be joined together in holy matrimony should speak up now or forever hold your peace.'

Silence.

'I ask again, is there anyone in this congregation...'

'Father, I have something to say...'

April had it all planned out. She was going to have the best wedding ever, she would make Alan her ex so jealous he would regret dumping her for her sister. She had invited him, he had agreed to come.

Blanca was April's brides maid, she had flown all the way from the UK to grace her bestfriend's wedding. They did be talking about it two months before and now its two days to the wedding.

'Your gown is something to die for!'

'You bet!' She winked. 'Alan would die when he see's me in this... Oh Jesus, I want to see he's face popping out in jealousy.'

'You invited Alan... Your ex?' Blanca's eyes widened, she couldn't hide her surprise.

'Yes of course I did.' April said as she walked back to her wardrope with sashay.

'Blood of God! Why would you do that?' She couldn't really believe April admitted she did. 'How many persons have you heard of inviting their ex to their wedding?'

'Well those that couldn't had skeletons packed in their cupboards. I have nothing to hide. Alan dumped me. I didn't.' She scowled.

'...and your sister, is she coming?'

'She's family, she would probably tag along with mum and dad or come with Alan... I really don't care.'

Blanca heaved, rolled her eyes and clasped her palms all at once, she could see her friend full of grit but she was afraid April wasn't bothered about who and who she had willingly given an open invitation. She shrugged and gave a wide grin, she was happy for her. It was April's day in two days time.

'Come here naughty puppy!' She gives April a tight hug.

'No advise for your friend who is still single till two days?' April asked beaming behind.

'Try not to get sloshed the morning before your wedding, you need to be in the right frame of mind to say I do.'

Alan and christine sat at the front row of the seat carefully arranged opposite the alter. They looked sweet with each other, they were both invited guests but they acted as though it were their own wedding. Eyes went and lips mumured about Christine not being her sisters bridesmaid. Yeah! Gossips still goes on even in the house of God.

Dave was standing before the alter, he had the pastor standing before him holding a bible with the rings in it. He waited patiently, April would be his anytime soon. He couldn't wait, he had fantasized this moment all his life, now the day was here and he couldn't wait any longer.

Eugene had patted him twice at the back to relax. That was the best he could do as a best man.

'Here comes the bride...' He heard that as whispers behind him. He turned around all beaming with smiles. Finally.

April walked hand in hand with her father. She looked exceptional in her gown, she sighted Alan and Christine staring and giving her a well wisher smile, she smiled back grinning even wider but suddenly her heart stopped. Why had she invited them? No! Why had she invited Alan? Why didn't she think that Alan's presence could actually destroy her wedding... Whatever it was or could have been was too late now.
Aprils father handed her over to Dave and walked back to take his sit at the front row.

The pastor commenced the sermon and went on and on. But there she sat, her mind had no peace.

'Nothing must go wrong.' She had repeatedly told herself.

The time came, the exchange of ring part.
The pastor came forward to do the regular ritual by asking, 'Is there anyone in this congregation who has a reason or reasons why this couple should not be joined together in holy matrimony should speak up now or forever hold your peace.'

Silence.

'I ask again, is there anyone in this congregation...'

'Father, I have something to say...'

All eyes turned behind searching for the devil that had come to church.

'What did you say?' The priest asked again shocked.

'I said I have something to say...' April managed her voice as she watched the expression on Dave's face. 'I think I'm still in love with my Ex.'

Dave fainted.
